Do I need to retrofit before recharging? Recharging Methods (In Our How To Guide) Advantages of Kits Benefits of Using a Gauge
COMPARISON OF PRODUCT FEATURES:
Do I need to retrofit before recharging?
If your car is a 1994 or earlier model, you probably have an R-12 system and need to retrofit before recharging with R-134a. Check under the hood for a label indicating whether the system is R-12 or R-134a.
Advantages of Kits
Our Recharging Kits and our combination Recharging & Retrofit Kits provide you what you need for recharging. Our most complete kits include refrigerant (with oil), hose, and gauge. These kits are the Measure & Charge (MAC-134), the Quick Charge with Refrigerant (QCK-2CS) and the Recharging & Retrofit Kit (RKR-7). These kits differ primarily in how they dispense refrigerant into your A/C system (pushing a button, squeezing a trigger, or tapping a can) and in which parts are re-usable. For more information, see the Comparison of Product Features for Recharging Kits and Combination Recharging & Retrofit Kits.
Benefits of Using a Gauge
We recommend using a pressure gauge to ensure an accurate fill and peak cooling performance. An under-filled or over-filled system will not blow as cold as possible, and extreme over-filling could damage your A/C system. Many of our recharging kits come with convenient, in-line gauges. Or you can use our EZ Gauge (GEZ-1). All our gauges are color-coded, making it easy to see if you have filled to the right pressure.
